2018 Regional Economic Development Council Awards Announced

At an award ceremony in Albany on December 18, 2018, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul awarded the Southern Tier Region $65.4 million in funding to support 101 economic and community development projects in the eight county region that includes Tompkins County. Tompkins County was awarded approximately $4.4 million for 19 projects.

Among the projects awarded funding in Tompkins County:

  • Ithaca Community Childcare Center – School Age Program Expansion
  • Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce – Agri-culinary Tourism Program
  • Historic Ithaca – Cascadilla Boathouse Restoration
  • City of Ithaca – Ithaca Waterfront Access

The Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative is part of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s campaign to increase State investment and economic development. The regional councils are public-private partnerships made up of local experts and stakeholders from business, academia, local government and non-governmental organizations.

After seven rounds of the process, the Cuomo Administration says more than $5.4 billion has been awarded to create more than 6,300 jobs and further community development.

TCAD routinely provides technical assistance to local companies and organizations applying to the State for this funding.

Since the first round of Regional Council funding in 2011 Tompkins County has received over $36 million in funding for a variety of projects.

Congratulations to all the winners!
