Understanding IDAs and Tax Incentives

A recent article in Tompkins Weekly titled Tax Abatements Stimulate Local Economic Growth, details the purpose of the Tompkins County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and IDA’s overall, focusing on how tax incentives help the local economy and stimulate job growth. TCAD administers the Tompkins County Industrial Development Agency, which offers tax incentives to qualified projects in the County with a goal of stimulating economic development, broadening the tax base, and providing benefits including new jobs to the community. There are often misconceptions and confusion about how the IDA works and this article may help clear up some of that confusion.
