Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport Receives Almost $10M Federal Grant for Expansion Project

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer announced on May 9th that Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport was awarded $9,999,990 in federal grant funding for Phase 2 of the expansion and modernization project currently underway at the airport. Senator Schumer strongly advocated for the funding that will be used for the construction of a post-security arrival/departure concourse and new jet bridges.

“Business at the Ithaca Tompkins Regional airport has taken off, people are choosing to fly out of Ithaca, and carriers are taking notice. These federal funds will go a long way to create a world-class facility right here in Tompkins County that will encourage continued growth,” said Senator Schumer. “I was proud of the role I played in securing this federal funding and will keep fighting to ensure this long-sought project stays on the runway to success.  With a new and improved facility, the sky is the limit for Ithaca Tompkins Regional.”

“This federal grant award completes funding for our airport infrastructure project. Special thanks to Senator Schumer for his critical support to obtain these funds!” said Mike Hall, Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport Director.

The federal funding is in addition to a $14.2M grant from New York State, awarded by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport is vital to the local economy and supports and promotes economic growth in the region. The improvements will benefit not only those visiting the area, but also local businesses with national and global ties.

“From the beginning of our critical airport infrastructure renovation, Senator Schumer has been an active supporter and advocate.  He understands how crucial this project is for Tompkins County’s residents and visitors, and for our entire economy,” said Martha Robertson, Chair, Tompkins County Legislature.

“This federal support secures our airport’s ability to grow and thrive in the future, and to continue as a critical tool for our county’s robust business growth and development.  The expansion of Ithaca Tompkins Airport will preserve and enhance Tompkins County’s role as one of the most diverse and equitable communities in New York State,” said Jason Molino, Tompkins County Administrator.
