Ribbon Cutting at Fuertes Bird Sanctuary Overlook

On Wednesday July 12, the Friends of Stewart Park held a ribbon-cutting celebration for the newly restored Fuertes Bird Sanctuary Overlook next to the Cascadilla Boat House. The overlook was originally built in 1934. Restoration work was by Brainstone Masonry, Accufab, and The Plantsman Nursery.

Funders include Triad Foundation, an anonymous family foundation, and numerous individual donors. Partners include the City of Ithaca, Historic Ithaca, and the Cayuga Bird Club. Martha Armstrong of TCAD was on hand, as the administrator of the Tompkins County Tourism Capital Grants program. While the program did not specifically fund this restoration, the program has funded several studies for planning the park’s restoration, and is currently investing in the Picnic Pavilion.
